Joan is an independent Medicare consultant and a licensed insurance agent in New York and New Jersey, with 20-plus years of experience in the health insurance/managed care industries. In her 9 years as a certified Medicare consultant with the New York State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) she provided in-depth individual counseling on Medicare enrollment, informed plan choices, financial assistance eligibility/programs, and billing/appeals issues. She has presented extensively in New York to bring clarity and focus to consumers often overwhelmed by the decisions Medicare requires. As a non-captive insurance agent, she is delighted to join forces with Main Street Medigap, because it provides her the freedom to offer to her clients only those Medicare products, from varied insurers, that she knows to be the most cost-effective and quality-proven.

Joan’s background includes 10 years in the corporate sector at Merck-Medco as a Senior Marketing Director in Prescription Benefit Management. After learning first-hand the complexity of providing care and coordination of health care services for her mother, she trained as a Professional Geriatric Care Manager at Hunter College/Brookdale Center for the Aging in New York City and retains a compassionate understanding of the needs and sensitivities of this population. Joan’s passion extends to music: a trained classical singer, she recently released her first solo opera CD.
